Camp Casey hosting job fair for Area I troops
Top companies from the defense industry and other sectors will be looking for new employees at the Area I Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Camp Casey Community Activity Center.
The fair is open to servicemembers considering leaving the armed forces as well as civilian Defense Department identification card holders.
Job seekers should bring copies of their resume for each employer they might be interested in, said Kenneth Schlueter, transition services program administrator
“Finding a job is a two-way street,” Schlueter said in an e-mail interview. “Employers want to know about your skills and abilities, while job applicants should be asking about such things as the corporate culture of the company and opportunities for training and advancement within the company.”
Confusing a business conversation with an interrogation is one of the most common mistakes job seekers make, according to jobs Web site Monster.com. Both parties should be asking and answering questions. The site also recommends the following tips for job seekers:
* Turn off your cell phone while talking to prospective employers.
* Research the companies you are interested in before talking to the recruiter. Also, review your own experiences so you can answer questions with poise.
* Send a thank-you note to interviewers a few days later, along with a question or additional information about yourself.
Private employers at the event include the American Red Cross, Anteon Corp., Halliburton, Calumet, Lockheed Martin, Exchange New Car Sales, MPRI, MTC Technologies, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon.
The Army National Guard, Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Embassy and 2nd Infantry Division Command Retention also will be seeking qualified soldiers.
The Army Career and Alumni Program holds one or two job fairs every year in Area I and other theaters, Schlueter said
Central Texas College officials also will be there to discuss education opportunities, and Army services groups will have information available about volunteer posts.
For more information on the job fair, call DSN 730-4044. Source
